Phloxine B can be substituted for Eosin Y ws. It is used in the hematoxylin phloxine saffron (HPS) stain, stains paneth cell granules in Lendrum's phloxine-tartrazine method, and can be used to demonstrate alcoholic hyaline.

Local
Phloxine B, a red acid dye, is a derivative of
fluorescin with distinctly bluish shade; used for disinfection and detoxification of wastewater through photooxidation. It is used as an intermediate for making photosensive dyes and drugs. It is used as a plasma stain in histology and as a component of Mallory's phloxine–methylene blue stain. Phloxine is known to have a destructive action on cancer cells. Acid dyes are water-soluble dyes employed mostly in the form of sodium salts of the sulfonic or carboxylic acids. They are anionic which attach strongly to cationic groups in the fibre directly. They can be applicable to all kind of natural fibres like wool, cotton and silk as well as to synthetics like polyesters, acrylic and rayon. But they are not substantive to cellulosic fibres. They are also used in paints, inks, plastics and leather.
