GENERAL DESCRIPTION & APPLICATIONS

Hexachlorophene is a chlorinated bisphenol antiseptic with a bacteriostatic action against Gram-positive organisms, but much less effective against Gram-negative organisms. It is used as an ingredient of various preparations used for skin disorders. But it was withdrawn from over-the-counters in some countries, as because once a product has been withdrawn by the FDA due to cancer suspect. Hexachlorophene possessing both hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties is also used as a purifying or cleansing agent. Cationic detergents are often used as germ-killing cleansers.
