APPLICATIONS

Benzbromarone is an uricosuric agent which blocks tubular reabsorption of uric acid and are used in the treatment of hyperuricemia of gout. It is a white or almost white crystalline powder; insoluble in water, sparingly soluble in alcohol, soluble in acetone and methylene chloride; melring point 152 C. Chemical designation is 3-(3,5-Dibromo-4-hydroxybenzoyl)-2- ethylbenzofuran.
