GENERAL DESCRIPTION & APPLICATIONS

Albendazole is an orally administered broad-spectrum benzimidazole anthelmintic used against helminths and in the treatment of hydatid cyst disease and neurocysticercosis. It is used to treat ruminant infestations by either roundworms or flatworms. It is a white to off-white powder; insoluble in water; soluble in dimethylsulfoxide, strong acids and strong bases; slightly soluble in methanol, chloroform, ethyl acetate and acetonitrile. Chemical designation is Methyl 5-(propylthio)-2-benzimidazolecarbamate.
