INFORMATION

Actinomycin D is a compound composed of a two cyclic peptides attached to a
phenoxazine that is derived from bacteria of the genus Streptomyces. It is a
DNA-intercalator with growth-inhibitory properties. It binds to DNA at the
transcription initiation complex and inhibits elongation by RNA polymerase.
Actinomycin-D is one of the old apoptosis inducer drugs which has been used in
anti-cancer activity, but is not normally used as due to high toxicity causing
damage to genetic material. 7-Aminoactinomycin D is the fluorescent derivative
having strong affinity for DNA, used as stains in staining for imaging DNA
fluorescence. It has a very large emission range with most blue and green
fluorophores compatiblity and even red fluorophores.
